UA Local 357's Online Apprenticeship Program - Official Application

Now that you have reviewed the Minimum Qualifications, necessary documentation and overview of the Apprenticeship Application process, your final step in the online application process is to complete your official application.

Qualifications Necessary For an Applicant to be Considered For a Probationary Pipe Trades Apprenticeship

As a reminder, these are the minimum qualifications to proceed with your UA Local 357 apprenticeship application:

A. Applicants must be willing to work full time in any part of the following counties in Southwest Michigan: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren Counties and must be willing to attend classes in Schoolcraft, Michigan.

B. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and graduated or 17 and a senior on track to graduate this year with a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED)equivalency approved by the state to apply.

a. Must have reliable proof of birth date ready to upload before proceeding with this application. Examples of acceptable proof include a valid driver'slicense and birth certificate. Both must be uploaded.

b. Applicants must upload an official transcript(s) for high school and post high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted if applicable and must include subject test scores.

i. A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED)equivalency certificate approved by the state is required prior to employment.

c. Military Veterans must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/ or experience if they wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.


C. Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.

a. Applicants will pass a screening for the current illegal use of drugs on acceptance into the program and prior to being employed.


D. Applicants will submit to a background investigation consisting of, but not limited to, Federal criminal history, credit reports and driving record, upon acceptance into the program and prior to being employed. Background investigations are required by Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 357 standards and requested for the following purposes:

a. Clearance into various worksites such as Nuclear Power Plants, Schools, etc.
b. Driving vehicles provided by Contractors and covered under their insurance.
c. Obtaining a State of MI Plumbing license.


Applicants’ acceptance into this apprenticeship program may be denied based on results of investigation. 

Refusal to consent to background examination will result in dismissal from selection process.

Documents Needed

1. A copy of your high school diploma (If your Graduation Date is NOT on your high school's transcripts) or GED equivalent

2. A copy of your high school transcript of classes and grades

3. A copy of your birth certificate

4. A copy of your valid driver's license

5. A copy of your DD-214 (if applicable)
